CLoudability is used to provide accurate cost reporting of our cloud spend to our stakeholders
  • Provide clearly defined dashboards for Cloud spend
  • Provide detailed spend reports for executive levels
  • Fully Customizable dashboard based on customer need
  • Cloud recommendations provide three scenarios, This can be confusing to novice users
  • Easier movement between environments that a user has been given approval to see
  • Widgets can get tricky for novice and beginner users
Great tool for providing detail monthly , quarterly and yearly cloud spend.
Also great that you can go year over year

I would like to see an ability to generate that includes year over year.

Cloud optimization recommendations seem more like suggestions and not whats always best for the application

I help customers use Apptio Cloudability, I do not personally use it to solve issues that I personally have. The things we do are help customers with organizing their cloud costs so that they can do a showback or chargeback model. Other use cases are to clean up errors in the Cloud billing too, and find opportunities to save money using the cloud through optimization.
  • Organizing Cloud Costs
  • Reporting
  • The Tag Explorer
  • Views
  • User Management
  • Scaling the product to be usable across large organizations
Apptio Cloudability is good for large enterprises where they need to bring all their payer accounts, linked accounts, subscriptions, etc into a singular view. It's not great if companies are already well organized and can use cloud native tools to solve their issues. I think Apptio Cloudability costs to much for smaller customers that really could use the help.

We use it to manage all of our savings plans and RIs. We also use it for right-sizing opportunities and we use it to graph those optimization efforts to show the cost going down as optimization changes are happening.
  • It shows the visibility into the cost and a single pane of glass for all of our cloud providers, multiple products in those multi-cloud. So it shows us our spending across the cloud by vendor, by product, and by all the tags that we have in the cloud. So it gives us visibility into many different directions in our cost.
  • For me, it is a lot of anomaly detection and I think there's a lot of improvement that can be made to show anomalies that happen over time because if it's just day to day or week to week, you may not see the change. But if you see the trend over a period of time, show me something that has grown 40%, 50% over the past three months and maybe you can do those things and we just haven't figured them out yet. So we are very new to the product, but I think anomaly detection for me is one of the bigger things.
I think if you are maybe small in your cloud spend and you're only in one cloud, I think you can probably get away with just using the cost management tool in that cloud vendor. I don't think it's necessary for everyone and I think you have to have enough optimizations to have your return on investment, but it's certainly suited if you plan to grow and you're still small, get it now and don't wait.

Apptio Cloudability has helped American on the FinOps journey by providing the visibility and spend details that app owners and engineers need to make quality business decisions, such as Architecture, Right Sizing, Performance and future investments.
  • Consumption Visibility
  • Financial views
  • Acct and Product teams listen to us as a customer and make recommended enhancements
  • Over time, pulling all the Apptio tools together to provide one powerful view.
Apptio Cloudability is well suited for organizations looking to provide financial/cost data to help drive their FinOps journey.

We are a reseller of AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle and IBM Cloud. We invoice our customers based on their usage as well as sell solutions deployed on those platforms.
  • multi-cloud usage
  • aggregation and segregation of usage across multi-cloud
  • anomly detection
  • feature parity across govcloud versions of cldy
  • meet higher compliance requirements (FedRAMP High, IL4 IL5)
well suited for individual application owners to see their usage, less so for a brokerage admin that manages multiple brokerages and require segregation. Eagerly await GA of CLDY for MSP

We use Apptio Cloudability to actively manage our cloud spend across hundreds of applications. This involves identifying opportunities to reduce or optimize our spend along with holding users actively accountable through a charge back model.
  • It can easily synthesize massive amounts of data into digestible formats
  • The api integrations allow for unique customizations including integration with our CMDB.
  • There is currently no ability to apply global filters over the data in cloudability. Rather users must go through a difficult process to create custom views which they are later able to apply over top of their datasets.
  • Drill functionality does not really exists but appears to be more of an after though add-on. Yes you are able to "drill" but the visuals disappear and even the ability to export the more detailed information.
Apptio Cloudability, is a powerful tool and its use case is expanding rapidly with the growing investment within Apptio BI and now the IBM acquisition. It can handle large amounts of data and it provides great levels of customization for how users can interact with the data. Apptio Cloudability, however, does lack in it's dynamic use cases where users might want to actively drill into visualizations or filter the dashboard content. If you are simply looking for data reports it is able to provide great data at fast speeds.

We use it currently to increase visibility and help coordinate costs to help us understand our usages across multiple departments who never had insight into this information. Our costs began to spiral out of control and now we have an understanding of drivers and trends. I was recently able to identify a spike in costs on one resource that we met on as a group and developed a strategy to save a good chunk of money on a monthly basis.
  • Visualizes the trends.
  • Notifications via email to keep us aware of activities.
  • Helps us forecast better.
  • The modeling is a bit difficult to navigate as a new user in my opinion.
I think the best value that it offers is visibility for many different user types as opposed to the native tools the products offer that are limited to the engineering teams generally. I think it is appropriate if you have multiple cloud providers as well as it puts everything in the same format for easier reviews.

Showback to business units on their spend - all users in the organization have access, being transparent about all costs and who is spending what. Use it to drive accountability and ensure we are getting value from cloud investments.
  • Like-for-like in different clouds
  • Investigate spend trends
  • Reporting
  • User management
As a finops practitioner, it's great to look through and investigate drivers of cost and follow up with internal customers - though we give access to all internal customers, it's pretty challenging for them to get the hang of it, get their own reports up and running, etc. Scalability.

Apptio Cloudability is a cost analysis tool that helps us keep track of what we are using within Azure Cloud. It has helped us keep track of specific costs and breakdown by application owner (with appropriate tagging). This tool also helps us decide future spending requirements.
  • Cost Analysis
  • Spending breakdown by Product/Application
  • Forecast of cost for future budget spending
  • Setup of account to communicate with Cloud Providers
  • Tagging documentation
Not only has Cloudability shown it to be a top-notch product when it comes to Cloud cost analysis, but its customer service support is very responsive. Once you understand the tool (and most of its features), it becomes easy to create reports and show where your Cloud spending is actually going.

We use Apptio Cloudability to help with cloud cost and usage visibility to educate our users on our use of public cloud. We make optimization decisions such as commitment purchasing and rightsizing. We also use the platform to help with tag remediation. A big use case for us to help understand our services down to the resource ID level and Apptio Cloudability does a great job of querying the data quickly.
  • Customizable Dashboards and Reporting
  • Recommendations for Rightsizing, AWS Reserved Instances, and Savings Plan
  • Splitting cost by various business segments by way of the Views feature
  • Better 3rd party integration for reporting (direct Google Sheets)
  • Improvements on RBAC
  • OpenSearch Reserved Instances recommendations do not exist
Scenario 1: Great for basic cost and usage visibility for single and multitenant environments
Scenario 2: Great for exploring commitment recommendations for AWS EC2, RDS, RedShift and ElastiCache
Scenario 3: Excellent for one-to-many dashboard/views segmentation

Forecasting could use improvement, not the most advanced forecasting with any ability for users to input known variables

Cloudability is used to analyze consumption and usage of AWS Cloud Services. As we scale our services and customer-base, there was a pressing need to reign in COGS. Cloudability is used to report, identify, and execute on the reduction and optimization of our Cloud Infrastructure across our entire AWS portfolio.
  • Dashboard
  • Resizing
  • AWS Integration
  • Reports
  • Automatic time windows
  • Widget information
Cloudability is best suited for small to medium sized cloud operations. It excels at rapid creation of dashboards. It seems to become less efficient when the user is a highly experienced FinOps engineer. Competitor products offer some features that make gathering this information faster.

We use Cloudability for cost visibility into our cloud spend across various cloud platforms. We create dashboards and reports to provide stakeholders with information about spend related to specific applications or business units. This is also used for anomaly detection to understand when we may be deviating from expected and forecasted spend.
  • Cost visibility
  • Optimization recommendations
  • Anomaly detection
  • On-prem cost reporting
  • SaaS reporting
  • Oracle Cloud support
Cloudability is excellent for cost reporting and aggregating spend from various cloud providers. This was a task performed manually using spreadsheets in the past and disconnected business intelligence tools, however, Cloudability can help us automate and steamline this process which also helps to reduce resource hours. The forecasting reports are helpful, however, we need additional data for it to be accurate.

Real-time cost reporting analytics
  • Real-time cost analysis
  • Above-average UI and report design
  • Apptio BI is not useful compared to clady reporting
  • lack of support for customer-specific issues that take too long to get remedied
  • Pricing model not sustainable for heavy cloud users
Cloudability is great for understanding AWS EDP's and getting that information baked in to your costs as it can be extremely confusing otherwise. The 'real-time' data reported through the tool is also extremely useful. I do not have much experience with advanced features as we do not need to use them, but I assume the rightsizing and utilization data is helpful.

Cost is one of the critical factors when we migrate our Applications to the Cloud and expand the business. Cloudability helps us provide insights on how we are spending in the Cloud and provides multiple dashboards to help us understand the spending trending over a period of time, by Cloud resources, by Departments, etc. It also provides information on how Reserve instances or Savings plans are utilized in our Org. I like the automated reports that tell me how much I have been spending since last week on the hosting cost, and oftentimes, this helps me realize that you might have an orphaned resource running in the cloud when you should have deleted it. The recommendation in terms of resource utilization and how we can optimize the usage is a great deal. As more and more products are launched and more employees start to operate in the Cloud, it is difficult to control the cost without having a way to tell us - where we are spending the most and how and then providing recommendations. Cloudability provides that for us, and that is a big win when were are talking about $$$.
  • Dashboards and multiple dimensions.
  • Recommendations
  • Ability to slice and dice, track by Tags, Service type.
  • Email report alerts that show the trend.
  • Helps to build a forecast and a cost report for the last six months etc.
  • More UI/UX improvement.
  • Recommendation engine to provide multiple insights into why and how.
It is well suited when you are more product-centric, engineering focussed, and think about time to market your products to your end customers and have less time to manage the cost of hosting your product in the cloud. Cloudability will help you bridge that gap and provide you with everything you need to stay cost conscious and thereby increasing your revenue and reducing Opex.

Apptio Cloudability was helpful as it allowed me to do a cost analysis of cloud spend and generate insights for a client team meeting. It provides flexibility to play around with different criteria thereby helping determining costs based on tags, projects, resources, etc. Also, the visualization was compact, very detailed and extremely informative.
  • Compact, allowing me to view multiple cloud on a single dashboard
  • Good customer support
  • Customization based on different criteria allows for flexibility
  • UI is a bit difficult to navigate and needs training/experience
  • Pricey for SMEs
  • Found their FAQs to be dated
  • Making customizations is not that easy
Well suited for: - cost tracking, resource utilization, and capacity planning - analyzing multiple cloud projects in a single dashboard - metrics allow new deployments to be more cost efficient Less appropriate: - UI/UX can be improved and made a bit uncomplicated, currently it is a bit overwhelming for people starting on it

We utilize the features of Apptio Cloudability in a number of different ways: 1) break down the spend for the various accounts/environments/groups on the 3 main providers we utilize (AWS, Azure, GCP); 2) utilize the optimization recommendations to determine efficiencies to reduce our overall spend using different strategies; 3) understand where there areas for improved governance, mainly around tagging. Because we track spending not just for our internal consumption but also for our external customer's site that we host and manage, it is critical that we receive accurate reporting, ensure we are receiving our negotiated rates for each of the providers, and that we can accurately report the consumption for each of our business units' applications. We try, as accurately as possible, to produce total cost of ownership (TCO) reporting for each of the Cloud-hosted applications. Because we can set up reports and segment access based upon accounts/business units, we can deliver specific reports/dashboards to the different business units and to the various personnel who will access them. We've started to review the recommendations from the tool to better understand where there are potential savings on the various platforms. Our focus has been to reduce the usage of higher-cost CPU/storage/network where possible and leverage reserved instances to reduce our Cloud spend. Finally, we use the governance functions to identify and improve our usage of tagging. The delivered reporting allows us to better understand where we can improve tags to better improve our reporting.
  • Financial reporting - canned reports along with easy drag and drop creation/modification tools.
  • Optimization report - show specific areas where resources can be re-allocated to less expensive ones (lower cost CPU/storage/network/etc.)
  • Governance reporting - lists out resources that have incomplete/missing tags on resources. This includes having application ID, environment type (Prod, Dev, Test), project code, etc.
  • Lack of consistent and accurate reporting of reserved instances for each platform, especially with Azure.
  • Improve functionality with Azure and GCP. Historically and currently stronger with AWS than with the other platforms.
  • More flexibility with optimization tools. Improvements have been made but still could be stronger to allow for more user selection.
Very strong product. Out-of-the-box capability to hook up with the various platforms, flexibility around report creation/modification. Optimization tools keep getting stronger over time. Integration of container reporting has been more advanced than other tools. As this tool has evolved, I would say there currently isn't an inappropriate scenario for its utilization.

We use Apptio Cloudability primarily to aggregate and track ongoing cloud spending for Azure & AWS (and eventually Google Cloud). We also use it to forecast future spending, identify virtual instances that might be good candidates for reservations, notify us of possible spending anomalies, and review detailed spending when needed. We previously used Power BI but it wasn't scalable, updating old tag data was extremely slow, and it didn't easily connect to AWS data (or at least not as easy as it does to Azure data).
  • Changing historical tag data when things change through "Business Dimensions"
  • Amortizing one-time costs over a period of time, such as reservation purchases
  • Creating visuals is intuitive
  • TrueCost Explorer feature is responsive and very easy to use
  • Sharing filtered data through reports, dashboards, and visuals is easy
  • Responsive technical support and customer teams
  • Slow to implement larger Apptio functionality due to Cloudability not being a native Apptio application
  • While improvements have been made, feature parity across major clouds is still not there
  • For Azure, Rightsizing functionality has not been updated to take advantage of new memory metric monitoring
  • Challenging to share reports & visuals with those not registered to use Cloudability
  • Reports are very generic; basically just glorified tables
  • Cannot customize visuals (colors, text size, etc)
  • While I appreciate the "no-configuration required" nature of Anomaly Detection, it can generate a lot of false positives
  • User management is very generic and not integrated with Apptio platform very well
Compared to other cloud cost management tools I have tried in the past, Apptio Cloudability is the easiest to use and has the most attractive visuals. While it does not have full feature parity for the three major clouds, it does better than alternative tools. Maintaining historical tag accuracy through Business Dimension is also implemented very well. I don't personally find their optimization features very useful, especially in regards to Azure.
